Case Study · Owned Brand

BoltinBen. From zero to 50K, no ad spend.

The running brand we built from a Sydney lockdown to ASICS and Apple partnerships. Every framework we use at the studio was tested here first, and the results speak for themselves.

01 · The starting point

A running account. No system, no reach.

In 2021 the account was a handful of finish-line photos and a lot of guessing. Generic running content in a saturated niche. Same shoe reviews everyone else was posting. No reason for anyone to follow.

The problem was diagnosable. Reels were occasional. Hooks were afterthoughts. Carousels did not exist. There was no system for deciding what to post next, no way to measure what worked, no plan for repeating it when something did.

The thing most running creators get wrong is the same thing most small business accounts get wrong. They post what they want to post. They never stop to find out what the algorithm actually rewards in their niche.

02 · The work

The exact system we built.

Research before content

Every week the system runs the same way. Find the hooks that are working in the wider category. Find the formats getting watched. Find the angles nobody is taking. Only then sit down to make anything.

Hooks tested in batches

Stop guessing which hook will land. Write five variations. Test the first three by posting them. Watch what holds attention past the first second. Use the winners as templates for the next month.

Format rotation by audience size

At under 5K followers, reels do the heavy lifting on reach. Carousels start working around 10K because there is an audience to convert. Different mixes for different stages, run on a known cadence rather than feel.

Visual identity as the moat

City running. Cinematic camera work. Same colour grade, same edit pace, same look across every post. The visual identity does as much work as the copy. Familiar shapes scrolling past at speed.

The accounts that grow are not the ones posting the most. They are the ones posting the same thing the same way until people start to recognise the pattern.

03 · The outcome

50K followers. Real partnerships.

The account crossed 50K organically in just over two years. 18 million monthly views at peak. ASICS, Apple, Maple Movement, Athletia, Recovri. Not because of luck. Because of a process that runs every week, in any niche, with any account size.

This is the system we now run for every client of 55 Knots. It is also the system we taught in the Viral Content System. The proof was here first.
